Saphenous Vein Ablation
What is Saphenous Vein Ablation?
A minimally invasive procedure that uses heat energy to close the saphenous vein.
When is Saphenous Vein Ablation performed?
Saphenous vein ablation is used to treat varicose veins in certain settings.
How is the procedure performed?
An anesthetic is injected at the site to numb the area. With ultrasound guidance, a small tube is placed into the saphenous vein. The vein is then anesthetized with local anesthesia. A laser is inserted and heat energy is applied to the vein. The heat energy causes the vein to seal and prevents blood from pooling in that area. Eventually the vein will scar and shrink.
