Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty

What is Kyphoplasty?

A minimally invasive image guided procedure to treat vertebral compression fractures.

How is the procedure performed?

Patients are given mild sedation through an IV inserted in the arm during the procedure.  An interventional radiologist makes an incision near the compression fracture.  A needle is placed into the vertebral body.  A balloon is used to restore the height of the vertebral body.  Then, cement is injected into the space and the needle removed creating permanent support for the vertebrae.

How can I schedule an exam or inquire for more information?

Our interventional radiologists offer the full spectrum of care including pre-procedure consultation, post-procedure care and when necessary, hospital admission.  All patients can schedule an office visit to consult with a radiologist to discuss vascular options prior to performing any procedure.  To schedule an appointment or if you have questions concerning this exam, please call the Interventional Radiology Clinic at 704-786-0052.
