CMC-NorthEast Iodinated Contrast eGFR Guidelines

NON-DIABETICS

eGFR greater than 60: Give contrast

eGFR = 30-60: Pre and post hydration (2L per day PO or equivalent IV in non-fluid restricted patients)

eGFR less than 30: Avoid contrast whenever possible. Please contact radiologist at 704-403-4120 to discuss pre-treatment options or alternative tests.

DIABETICS

eGFR greater than 60: Give contrast with pre and post hydration (2L per day PO or equivalent IV in non-fluid restricted patients)

eGFR = 30-60: Avoid contrast whenever possible. If eGFR is borderline (e.g. 58), attempt hydration and repeat eGFR measurement. Otherwise, use non-contrast CT, alternate imaging test, or pre-treatment with Mucomyst or Sodium Bicarbonate protocols.

eGFR less than 30: No contrast.
